This abstract describes the advancement of blended learning scenarios (e-learning + face-to-face learning) to a new concept of extended blended learning. This is achieved by including project-based learning as a third essential component, which caters to students' varying potential. The concept forms part of a theory that defines the university as a learning institution, and in which all three components are included in the learning processes. Learning environment, students and tutors are perceived as being connected to each other within a single system. In this abstract, we elaborate on the form such a system could take and outline the experiences we have gained in this context.
